» What is preventative maintenance and why do I need it?
Things are changing today at a rapid pace – including the way we all
use our vehicles. The way we use our cars and trucks, how we drive
them and the condition of our roads are all more extreme. Stop-and-go
traffic, short commutes; heavier loads and driving your car before it has
a chance to warm up are what the automotive industry refers to as “severe
driving.” Today, being a severe driver is more the rule than
the exception. Other severe driving factors include driving in extremely
hot or cold weather, on rough roads, in salty environments or towing a trailer
or boat.
For those of us living in New Jersey, we meet these standards on an almost
daily basis. Anyone who has traveled on Route 42 or the Schuylkill
Expressway knows what severe driving is. And did you realize your trips
down the shore were considered severe driving?
For these reasons, you should perform an oil & filter change every 3,000
miles (or as specified by the car manufacturer), and properly maintain and
repair your car as outlined in the scheduled maintenance record or other
car care guide. If you do, your car will perform safely and dependably
for years to come.
